And the work begins!
I really loved this one of the beginning of a new chapter of BMCR. Chris Dornbierer, the founder of the Retreat, is seen in the foreground and next to him is Mark Grasso, the Retreat's Director. The person in the picture raising his hands in prayer over the Retreat is Board member Dr. Paul Johansson. Praise God for His direction throughout this new endeavor. Another reminder to keep praying!
Thank you to Gary Richardson who generously shared photos he took to add to the blog. Gary's wife, Chris, is the Food Service Director at the Retreat.

I was told today that many of the guys will be working on the cleanup tomorrow on Thanksgiving Day. That says a lot about the type of people who live and work here and those who are helping with rebuilding this wonderful place.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? ~ Isaiah 43:19

It's been a few days since I've visited BMCR because I figured I'd probably start to bore people with the same kinds of pictures. I thought since the sun decided to peek out for a bit today, it was a good time to see what has been happening since Friday. I'm hoping to get up again tomorrow to take some pictures of the new office setup.
Just a reminder, the offices & bookstore are still open, and the fire did not affect any of the accommodations (other the the main kitchen, which will be temporarily unavailable but will have a 'mobile kitchen' to be able to provide meals very soon). There are many larger groups canceling due to lack of space for their large group meetings, and the Retreat is losing a lot of income right now. It's a good time to either visit for a weekend, or to send your donation towards the rebuild to show your support. We know that the Lord will provide, and the staff is trusting that He is in control. I've heard the re-build could take up to a year, but I'm believing it will be completed within 6 to 8 months. How about standing in prayer with me on that one?

Poor little snowman! This is the last of the Thanksgiving Day snow.

Well, turns out that they decided NOT to move the offices because they figured they'd
wait until internet service is set up and for the new desks to be delivered. I think that's a great decision instead of having to set up the new office THREE times! The offices are still temporarily set up across the hall from the Bookstore, and they're open for business.
My visit today wasn't a total wash, as I did run into a few friends. The picture below is of Helen, Mark, Ted, and my daughter (who's my 'co-pilot' every time I run to the Retreat to take more pictures). I caught them (except for my daughter!) coming out of the temporary office. It was a beautiful day here in PA. They are very excited about what's going on with the work & the progress they are making, and all the encouragement they are receiving.
... for when I am weak, then I am strong - the less I have, the more I depend on Him.

Well, it is a very (very!) dreary day here in New Ringgold today. There's a flood watch, gusty winds, and pretty much a good day to stay inside. Yesterday wasn't much better. SO, I'm guessing there's not a lot going on at the Mountain today. A cold front will be moving through tonight, and temps will be dropping into the 30s for daily highs. Wanted to mention the guys really could use the prayer in dealing with working in weather like this!
Figured I'd share a scripture for the day, anyway....
"Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:13-14).

The floods are gone, and the sun was shining today, so me and my 'other co-pilot', Willow (our 90-lb. Weinerainer) took a ride up to see what was going on at the Retreat (Willow patiently waited in the truck). Lots of debris has been moved, and they're still loading dumpsters to haul the stuff out. Guess that will be going on for awhile!
Feels like we've been through a few different seasons in this past week. Still chilly, but the sunshine makes it a LOT easier to work, I'm sure.
Just a reminder, the Offices & Bookstore are still open for business, and it's a lovely time of the year for a "retreat at the Retreat"! Very peaceful and not crowded at all. Efficiencies are available to rent, so even though the kitchen's not yet able to provide meals, you are still able to cook simple meals in your rentals. Keep in mind that they are losing a lot of money due to large group cancellations, and income is a bit slow right now. Why not plan a weekend getaway? The office phone number is 570-386-2154.

Only one new picture today I posted in yesterday's post (Tim & Amber), but just wanted to share some thoughts.
At 5:15 a.m. I was praying for my guys who went hunting this morning, and continued my morning time with the Lord. I was thinking about how very excited I was to be a small part of the re-building of BMCR, but I hadn't thought about a few things lately.
As my eyes were closed, I could see in my mind the beautiful banners that were inside the sanctuary, the many memories I had of attending services and Christmas parties there, seeing Beth leading worship on the stage, the kids doing their Saturday night skits, and recalling the years worth of teaching tapes that were lost in the fire. So many things that cannot be replaced. Maybe it was the same fear that my son, Joel, had the morning after the fire. After telling him that they will probably re-build, he asked "But will it be the same?"
It's still really hard to imagine that all this familiarity is gone, nor will I ever see the inside of that building again. Yet I look forward with anticipation what God has planned for the new building. The most important thing is that every single time I was on that Mountain I felt God's Presence. THAT is what it made it most special of all, and I'm truly believing it will be even more awesome in the new building that the Lord is providing. Now it's time for me to try to stop looking back and start looking forward . No, it will never be the same, but I believe it will be better.
"For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for
welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome."
~Jeremiah 29:11 (Amplified Bible)

OK, I know in yesterday's post I said that it's time for me to stop looking back and start looking forward, but then I got a message today from a gal by the name of Amanda Wright. She 'befriended' me on Facebook, and I was like "I don't know this girl" but saw she was a Sister in Christ so I accepted her invitation. So happy I did.
Amanda forwarded me a link to a video she made about what the Blue Mountain Christian Retreat is all about. As I watched it with my kids, once again I turned into a blubbering baby. Looking at all the memories there and seeing again the devastation of the fire broke my heart. I wanted to post the video for those of you who may have never had the opportunity to visit the Retreat or may not know what it is about, and to those who will be reminded about how special the place was. To my friends who frequent the place, it will no doubt bring a tear to your eye, too.
Thank you so much, Amanda, for the documentary about one of my most favorite places to visit, even if it is only 5 minutes from my home. As a most wonderful man by the name of Chris Dornbierer, who founded this place many years ago, is quoted in the video saying "We trust in God. It will be alright." And it will be.

Just wanted to take a minute to do a quick post since it's been a few days. I wanted to ask that you continue to persevere in prayer for the progress of the work at the Retreat. We've got a long road ahead of us! I was kind of bummed to hear that the office staff seemed a bit down this morning when I called to ask about the tables and chairs that were supposed to be delivered on Monday. I was hoping to take some pictures. They're still not there, but are now expecting them on Friday. Please pray that everything is set up in God's timing. We know that He is in control of all of the schedules, even when they don't seem to fit with ours!
They did get the OK from the insurance company to get the melted siding on the Bookstore replaced, and as soon as the materials are delivered the work will be done.
Thank you for your interest in following this blog, and for standing with me in lifting up the schedule, work and workers in prayer. Once again, our highs during the day are in the 20's, so it's very cold to be working outside. Oh, and be sure to take a minute to sign the guestbook on the bottom of the first page of the blog. I'm also trying to figure out how to do a "followers" link so people can sign up to be notified when something new is posted. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an easy way with with web builder. This is certainly a learning process for me!
"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverence, and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us."
~ Romans 5:1-5

The tables and chairs have arrived!
Sorry for the dark pictures, but I felt as though I was breaking and entering today. Rumor had it that the tables & chairs were delivered to the gym, and I really wanted to take a picture of them. This is where the kitchen will be temporarily serving food.
Hope it's not too dark, but the lights take an awfully long time to warm up. I felt (for some reason) that I needed to get in and get out. I'll be sure to take better pictures later, but, as my favorite saying goes, "It is what it is". Next time the lights will be ON. ;)

December 15, 2010 - BMCR Christmas party!
Was it cold? You bet. Were the staff cranky for the weather and inconvenience of having to do things 'the hard way'? No way! As usual, Everyone was welcomed with open arms and open hearts.
I just cannot say how nice it was to be back home on the Mountain last night to attend the Christmas party. What an awesome Christmas gift! Going home is exactly what it felt like. And who do you find when you go back home for a visit? Family. God's Spirit is alive and well on the Mountain, and these wonderful people are the proof of that.
The Retreat had their Christmas party on two nights this year instead of one. God even had the number of people planned (you know, it's GOD in the details!). They served dinner to 173 on Tuesday, and 173 on Wednesday.

Here's a little look at "behind the scenes" in the Food Services Department. Friends at a local church, Christ Church of McKeansburg, generously offered the use of their kitchen facilities for the Retreat staff to cook the food and then transport it to the gym where it was kept in warming trays. This picture is of a small room off the gym.
Pictured above is Tim the cook. The past few pictures of Tim were when he was on 'clean up crew'. Guess he's also 'in his element' as a cook, too, as he does both very well.
I'm told by Chris, the Food Service Manger, that the 'mobile kitchen' should be arriving within the next week or-so, if not sooner! She's been busily ordering everything she needs ensure they'll be ready to roll when it gets here. Meals will be available very soon, so now's the time to plan a trip to visit! Below is my friend Nick, the cook, who is not shy about getting his picture taken. |
Here's Karen on the left, along with my friends Judy and Nick.
Pictured below is the dishwashing crew whose names I also don't know, although they are welcome to visit my house anytime! I just want to say how impressed I was that in just a few weeks the Retreat's staff was able to work together to turn a gymnasium into a restaurant, and feed almost 350 people over two nights in a very organized, comfortable, and inviting way.
When I heard that the Christmas party would still go on after the fire, and how important it was to Chris that the community was able to celebrate together, it just confirmed to me that the people who run and work in this facility truly have a heart to serve both God and man. I can't express just how much I appreciate everything they do for this community and beyond. What a blessing it is to live so close to this wonderful place, and to be able to call these people my friends. |
Time to celebrate the reason for the season!
After dinner, everyone gathered in the new building for a time of worship and celebration. This is, of course, what Christmas is all about! This was the first time I was in the new building, which was just completed last year. Think God had a plan? They call it "Partners Hall", and if you're looking to book someplace for a group retreat, I'm told it seats approximtely 200. It's brand new, and absolutely beautiful (as you can see by the pictures). There are also two rooms downstairs that hold about 50 people each. I'm guessing the upstairs is probably where many of the meetings will be held until the new building is finished.
Our beloved Chris Dornbierer
After worship time was over, Chris humbly took the stage. I sincerely hope I translate his message appropriately.
Chris read a few of the wonderful letters he received from the supporters who sent donations to help with the rebuilding, and how very touched he was by the outpouring of support. If you do not know Chris, he, in my opinion, is THE most humble and genuine man you can ever meet. He permeates the love of Jesus in everything he says and does.
He then talked a bit about the night of the fire, and what the Lord had spoke to his heart. He said he was awakened by his daughter, Helen around 3 a.m. that morning, and went to the window where he had clear view of the building that was on fire. He said that the whole sky was red, and the fire was awesome. He said he started to cry and then the Lord spoke to his heart and said that this builidng is only temporary, but the lives of those who love Him are eternal and cannot be touched. He was comforted knowing that God had protected everyone; from the staff, to the visitors, to the fire fighters. Not a single person even suffered the slightest burn to their finger.
Unfortuantely I had no room left on my memory card in my camera, thus no more pictures today, but after Chris's testimony came a wonderful woman by the name of Karen Knight. For those who have been to prior Christmas parties, Karen has graced us by her beautiful voice and heart of worship. She had played the role of Noah's wife at "Sights and Sounds Theatre" in Lancaster, PA for years, and was used to singing for thousands of people. What a blessing it was to have her come to minister to such a small gathering. She, too, must know how special this place really is. By the way, if YOU have a picture of Karen you're willing to share, I'd really appreciate your forwarding it to me so I can add it. This woman's beautiful both inside and out.
At the end of the night, Helen took the microphone and shared some very exciting news. She made an announcement that there are two "winter getaways" currently planned, offering two weekends of ministry with a great time of teaching along with a time of refreshing. Meetings will be held Friday 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. & 7 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. Children's Ministry will be available.
First up is my good friend, Dr. Karl Coke. He will be teaching on February 4th - 6th. Dr. Coke is a stimulating Bible teacher, and his primary purpose and call is to teach laymen and pastors to be more effective in their ministry. He really makes the Word come alive, and if you're looking for "meat" of the Word, come prepared for a meal. AND, he's got a pretty good sense of humor, too! ;)
The following weekend (February 11-13) we will be joined by Helen Trowbridge, who is a wonderful woman of God who also loves the Retreat. She's the author of two books, "Can You Wait One More Hour" and "A Night Alone in the Camp". Helen focuses on developing Godly character in people's lives. A powerful word with a prophetic annointing will change you and minister to you as Helen imparts the truths about God's word.
I was SO very excited about this announcement as these Bible teachers are two of my VERY favorites who come to the Retreat. Holy Spirit-led, and biblically solid. If you're interested in attending any of these winter getaways, please give the Retreat office a call at (570)386-2154. If you're serious about coming, I'd book ASAP to be sure you're able to get accommodations. January is really just around the corner!

December 22, 2010
Well, needed to take some time today during my 'Christmas chaos' to take a ride to the Retreat to see what was going on. I was told that they were actually expecting the new mobile kitchen to be arriving today (guess they were stuck on Route 95 in traffic), and I'm hoping to get up sometime soon for some pictures of the new unit. A big thanks to Dan Shoemaker for taking the trip down south to pick it up, and another thank you to Russell Concession Company for making the unit available so quickly!
I visited with the office staff a bit first, and was told that they are hoping to move into the 'new temporary' office hopefully within the new few days (the guys were putting together their new desks). They were all busy as elves (as usual) trying to keep things as normal as possible. JUST another reminder, the Bookstore is also open for business. Many of you are probably off on vacation during this holiday season, and it'd be nice to take a ride up to support them.

Here's a picture of Donna (who's actually "Auntie Donna" to me!) and John busily working in the office. They're very anxious to be moving into the new office space.
In the background is Mark helping with some guests. Even though things are MUCH slower than normal, it's business as usual. They would, however, really appreciate some more business! BTW, have you made your reservation for one of the Weekend Getaway Retreats in February?? You can call the office at 570-386-2154 to make your reservation. |
I wanted to thank many of you for your kind words about this blog. I'm SO happy people are actually reading it! It is a lot of work, but I'm thoroughly enjoying being the "Blog Girl". It's giving me an opportunity to be involved (even if it's a tiny part) of what's happening at the Retreat. Please don't forget to sign the Guest Book at the bottom of the first page. I'm also really enjoying getting to know the staff much better. I'm almost feeling like I'm one of them! :) Maybe they will need a staff reporter when we see what the Lord has planned in the future?? I've got a BIG God, so I'm thinking big!
A big thank you to Chris Richardson for keeping me informed about what's going on with the kitchen planning. Also wanted to say to those who are wondering how our dear Chris Dornbierer is doing that he's very optimistic about what's going on. You see, he knows Who's in charge, and it's not him! Faith without works is dead, and he's certainly trusting God every step of the way. We all love you very much, Chris, and sincerely appreciate having such a wonderful place to visit. A very Merry Christmas and a blessed 2011 to you all. Until next time...

December 26, 2010
Well, it's the day after Christmas, and I hope you all had a wonderful celebration of our Savior's birth with family and friends. I didn't get a chance to go up to see the new kitchen, but Chris said it has arrived safely. Below are a few pictures she sent to me that her husband, Gary, had taken. Wanted to pass them along to show you all. SO, what this means is that the kitchen is now up & ready to serve! It resides right next to the gym.
On another note, the office staff is anxiously anticipating being able to move into the new office sometime this week. They will move into the "Byron House" (did I remember the name correctly?) which is right across the road next to the fireside building where the bookstore is. It's exciting as it will be set up more like a hotel, with a lobby, registration area, TV with activities & program information, and private offices. Can't wait to see it!

In position and ready to go!
Thankfully, Dan has backed in something this size a time or two before. :)

Hello everybody, and hope you all had a wonderful new year. Can you believe it's already 2011? I figure I'd post as much information as I've got at this point to be able to help you to feel like you're being kept 'in the loop'.
It's been about 8 weeks since the fire (I hope I'm figuring that correctly!), and SO much has been accomplished. You may want to re-visit page 1 of this blog for a reminder of just how far they've come. It has taken a LOT of hard work and organization. This is daily work on the Mountain, and even though things probably have gone back to normal in your own lives, the Retreat has not. Seemingly, time tends to dull the mind of remembering to keep the staff and volunteers in prayer. I am convicted of this myself, so would you please consider to re-commit with me to pray for direction and safety for the staff of the Retreat for this new year?
There are a lot of decisions that are being made for preliminary plans for the new building, and clean up is still going on. Staff is still feeling somewhat 'out of sorts' in their temporary set ups. But, through it all, not one person I have talked to has given up faith. Yes, there are some frustrating days, but it is clear to me that each and every one choose to trust that God is in control. The Maintenance staff are stuck working in very frigid conditions, and the office staff is still working on folding tables, but it's business as usual!
Another reminder of the Winter Getaways that will be happening in the beginning of February, just a few weeks away (Dr. Karl Coke & Helen Trowbridge). You can look back to the posts about the Christmas party for more information. And, if you're not able to visit, how about supporting the project with a monetary gift to let them know that you are still holding them up in prayer?
Well, I hope you're enjoying today's blog. Thanks again, so very much, for visiting!

OK, I know it's been a little while since I've last posted, so I figured I'd take some time to write something for those who keep checking back. Not much going on right now at the Retreat, at least not anything I can take pictures of.
The girls have, indeed, moved into their new offices. There have been numerous meetings about final decisions on the new building, which are still going on. We've been socked with lower-than-normal cold temperatures, and a few snow & ice storms. Last night a new 5-6" blanket of snow fell here in New Ringgold. It is absolutely beautiful. Things have pretty much been "business as usual" on the Mountain, with a few groups coming in, and the Bookstore is still open for customers.
Well, sorry to say but that's about all I have to report today. SO I figured I can just share part of my devotional from this morning because I think it applies to all the decisions and activity 'behind the scenes' that are happening at the Retreat. Many, many prayers are needed for continual guidance with the decisions that are being made. Maybe this can also be your own personal prayer as a reminder to acknowledge God in everything you do. He is in control.
This excerpt is from the devotional book "Silent Strength" by Lloyd John Ogilvie. I think I bought the book years ago at the Retreat's Bookstore. Today's devotion is entitled "The Lord Is My Pacesetter". It was written as a rendition of Psalm 23 by Toki Miyashina to give peace amidst life's pressures. This is my personal prayer for the staff at the Retreat as they continue to make the decisions about God's plan for the Mountain. There is no doubt that they seek God throughout each and ever step of this process, and I'm absolutely certain that Thy will be done.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths (Proverbs 3:6)
The Lord is my Pacesetter, I shall not rush;
He makes me stop and rest for quiet intervals.
He provides me with images of stillness,
which restore my serenity;
He leads me in the ways of efficiency through
calmness of mind,
And His guidance is peace.
Even though I have a great many things
to accomplish each day,
I will not fret, for His presence is here.
His timelessness, His all importance,
will keep me in balance.
He prepares refreshment and renewal in the midst
of my activity,
By anointing my mind with His oils of tranquility.
My cup of joyous energy overflows.
Surely harmony and effectiveness shall be the
fruits of my hours,
For I shall walk in the pace of my Lord, and
dwell in His house forever.
The last picture I'm sharing is after lunch right before the Cokes went home in front of an old tractor with a salt spreader. It took awhile to take this picture because Dr. Karl wouldn't stop talking. I don't think he minded standing there holding Lori's hand, anyway. The sun had come out and the skies were blue, and we were finally able to be outside. I so very much appreciate the opportunity to break bread with these wonderful people that me and my family call friends. As we pulled away from the restaurant, my daughter summed it up when she said she already misses them. We so look forward to their return in July, without all the snow and ice!
Just a reminder that the Winter Getways continue next week with Helen Trowbridge. She will be teaching the same schedule, Friday night 7 p.m., Saturday morning 10 a.m., Saturday night
7 p.m., and Sunday morning 10 a.m. Come and taste and see that the Lord is good. Helen is an anointed bible teacher, and a good friend of the Retreat. From what I understand there are still rooms available. Please call the office if you'd like more information.
Lastly, I just want to ask that you continue to offer up prayers for the process of re‐building the Retreat center. It is not just a building, but a place where God's presence will come and peoples lives will change. I see many salvations, restorations, and people being set free to worship Him for who He is on this Mountain. In spirit and in truth. I so very much look forward to what God has planned, but we need the prayer covering throughout the whole process.
Oh, and donations will help, too.
If you have a testimony of what God has already done in your life as a result of this fire, please be sure to share it in my Guest Book on the bottom of the first page. I think it's important to be reminded about all the good that has come out of this devastating event.
What the devil meant to destroy, God is using for His good.
"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.."
(Rev. 12:11).
May we have clean hands and a pure heart as we work to accomplish His good and perfect will.
I will leave you with a scripture...
"The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former' says the Lord of hosts. 'And in this place I will give peace,' says the Lord of hosts."
~ Haggai 2:9
I, for one, cannot wait to see what the Lord will do. Until next time...
Hello everyone, and thanks for checking in. Not sure if it's the web builder or my computer, but for some reason trying to send this update is going painfully slow. It's not letting me center anything, either!! How frustrating, so I'll do my best. ;)
This past weekend we had a wonderful Winter Retreat with Helen Trowbridge. The teaching was annointed and the messages were powerful, just as usual, when Sister Helen visits the Mountain. She sure is a southern spit-fire, and is ON fire for the Lord. A true woman of God.
Sister Helen was in agreement with Dr. Coke (who taught here last week) that God wants us to build this new building debt-free, and we're all believing that it will, in fact, happen. We are His children and are called according to His purpose and everything we put our hand to do in His name will prosper. Do I hear an amen out there?!?
Spring really seems to have finally arrived here in New Ringgold, and the temperatures are FINALLY starting to warm up. The sun is shining and the snow and ice are melting. I'm told that the excavators have begun jack-hammering the concrete floor of the old building in preparation for ground-breaking. There are several meetings happening weekly with the architect to make decisions in a plan for the new building. At this point, they are hoping to firm up a final set of plans for the building by the end of March, and be able to break ground sometime in April. There's no better time than the present to support the Retreat financially. To make it easy to send a donation, here's their mailing address: 1 Christian Lane, New Ringgold, PA 17960.
Please continue (as I always remind you) to pray for this process to go smoothly, and for unity among those who are helping to find God's will in every aspect of the new building. Pray for wisdom and discernment in making these very important decisions while we lay the foundation of the new building. More important than the building itself, may we re-build the Tabernacle of David on the Mountain, where God's presence and Sprit are free to move and have His way. Where we hunger and thirst after God's Presence and not be led by the fear of man. May His glory not only visit the Mountain, but reside here. And the Spirit and the Bride say, "Come"!
Welcome back everyone. The sun is finally shining here in New Ringgold, and it looks like March MAY come in like a lamb for a change. It is so nice to finally be able to see some grass, although I'm not quite sure if winter is finished with us yet.
Meetings are still happening at the Retreat with the architect and builders about the final plans for the new building, and it's getting closer each week. How exciting! Please continue to pray for God's guidance in the final decisions.
There was a private retreat last week and we had almost 300 women from all over the country on the Mountain. Praise God that things are continuing on as usual. Chris in the kitchen told me many of them who came for the first time could not believe how smoothly everything went considering what has happened. A BIG kudos to the staff for all their hard work!! I hope to get some pictures from that retreat very soon, and will post them here on the blog as soon as I get them.
I only have a few pictures to share today, but also a thought. I do want to point out that this is just me talking, not the Retreat. I was listening to an old WOW Worship CD, and a few of the songs on there were about the River. Then I started thinking about the fire at the Retreat. Humm... fire and water. I can't remember how long ago it has been since I heard the teaching, but the Lord had reminded me today about the message that Dr. Coke presented on Fire and Water. Typically, I could just go up to the Retreat and borrow the tapes, but we all know that this is no longer an option. Made me think, since we've been through the fire, is it time for the water part to come up to the Mountain?
I am not at all mentioning this to sell more CDs for Dr. Coke, but just thinking that maybe God is creating something beautiful out of something devastating and is planning to create a place ready to be filled with his Presence in a new and mighty way. Now it's time to let the River flow. God's Word mentions water so many times, and I suggest taking some personal study time and reading about it because I do believe it's coming. I truly believe that God is preparing the Retreat for something really awesome. He will make all things new, and we will be able to experience His Presence in a way we never experienced it before. I'm believing for even more salvations, more healings, more deliverances, and more of His Presence. May we all have clean hands and a pure heart so that we are able to receive all that He has to give.
OK, enough preaching, and now back to what I'm supposed to be doing: to the pictures. :)
Please continue to pray, pray, pray. Lots of final and very important decisions are being made about the new building, and I'm sure it's a bit stressful because they are BIG decisions!
Pray for God's wisdom, for open ears to receive it, and for a peace that passes understanding.
May this new building be formed and molded into what God has planned for it to be.
Thanks again for caring enough about the Retreat to take your time to check in with me, and especially for all your prayers and financial support for BMCR. It was such a pleasure to meet so many of you who keep up with this blog at the Winter Retreat.
Please don't forget to sign the guest book on the first page, and check back soon. Things will be changing very quickly very soon.
Then will the lame leap like a deer,
and the mute tongue shout for joy.
Water will gush forth in the wilderness
and streams in the desert.
Happy spring everyone! Warmer weather, green grass, and flowers pushing through the soil signify that warmer weather is upon us. It's almost time to break ground for the new building!
I don't really have much to report today, but wanted to let you all know about an upcoming event on the Mountain. The Retreat will be having a private dinner for the volunteer firefighters who worked so hard to contain the fire. We will be serving them dinner and doing a little thank you presentation to show them how much we appreciate their devotion and hard work to serve us all. The dinner will happen this Saturday, March 26th, and I will be in attendance to help serve and take pictures for this blog.
So, but sure to check back again next week for pictures and a report about this very special dinner honoring the wonderful people who willingly put their lives on the line to serve our community. Their service is so much appreciated. AND, there's a possibility that the final plans for the new building may also be available by then, and if they are I will be also posting pictures of that, too. I know everyone's really anxious to see what the new building will look like. Yes, this is what you call a 'teaser'. :) As I said before, in no time at all things will start moving along very quickly.
See you again next week!
Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
~ John 15:13
~ John 15:13
A tribute dinner to honor the heroes of our community. That's what Saturday night was all about. The staff of BMCR held a tribute dinner this past Saturday night for the firefighters & emergency responders who worked so hard in fighting the terrible fire back in November. It seemed to me like there was a 'common thread' in many of the kind words spoken by the staff while they offered their sincere thanks in recognizing the selfless work of these men and women in serving our community. I posted this scripture above. How powerful of a statement, and how true it is about those who we gathered to honor that evening. God's love made real in serving fellow man.
I decided to post the picture above because my friend, Ted, had mentioned this one particular memory from that night of the fire (my thanks again to Larry Neff of The Times News for allowing me to share these pictures here). Ted is the person who actually discovered the fire that evening. I honestly do not like even looking at the pictures from this terrible night that changed so many things, because I feel we are now called to look forward towards the beauty that will rise from those ashes. My purpose for posting it is to point out the lone firefighter in the left forefront of the picture, sitting while holding the hose while pointing the stream of water on the oil & propane tanks. He is sitting because I'm told he had been there for several hours, doing his job by keeping the tanks cool while the others were trying to do their best to extinguish the massive flames. His one and only purpose was to keep everyone else safe while performing what seemed to be a simple task. This task was so very important in helping to keep everyone on the scene safe from the possibility of an explosion. He risked his own life to keep others safe as they were risking theirs to fight the raging fire and selflessly serve our community. Unlike the scripture, they were not doing so for only the people they call friends, but also for complete strangers. I was told at the tribute dinner that there were 20 different fire departments who responded that evening. Many of the responders on the scene were standing side-by-side next to people they had probably never met, yet they worked in unity to reach one goal. No greater love than this.
A small token of our appreciation
There are heroes who walk among us
never looking for glory or praise.
They don't see recognition
for their thoughtful, caring ways.
Living lives of deep commitment,
providing for those both far and near,
steadfast with a quiet strength,
through times of laughter and of tears.
You are a person like that to us,
a most selfless man by far;
So we'd like to thank you, Fireman,
for being the HERO that you are.
